The Gentlemen's Open
The Gentlemen's Open or the GO (Gee Oh) as it is most commonly referred to, was set up in 2001 by a group of friends who thought it would be a good idea to have an excuse to meet each year. The GO lasts a week and includes:
The Captain's Cup
During the first two days, over 36 holes, the Captains Cup is based on the format of the Ryder Cup. This 'friendly' team competition provides the ideal opportunity to acclimatise to the conditions, practice under competition pressures and make those last few tweaks before the real competition starts.
The Gentlemen's Open
This tournament will determine the success of the player's year. If you give a good account of yourself during these 72 holes of golf, whether it be to grind out a round destined for a cricket score, card your lowest ever score or to have an amazing run of scoring on the back nine, what ever the players can achieve during this highly competitive tournament will be etched in the minds of everyone for the next 12 months. A tournament based on net scores, the GO always provides tense uncertaintity. The range of scoring, the handicaps and the different types of courses being played ensure the result is never known until the end of the final day.
